Our story
About the Hotel
Sixteen rooms on a terraced slope in Naidupuram — built for people who came to Kodaikanal for the quiet.
Home/About
The idea
Built around the view, not in front of it
Most of Kodaikanal’s hotels face the road. Ours faces the valley.
Altitude by Kodai was planned on a slope in Thiruvalluvar Nagar, and the whole building follows the contour of it. The rooms are stepped down the hillside in three blocks, which is why sixteen rooms all manage to keep their outlook and why the balconies feel private rather than stacked. The restaurant sits at the top with glass on three sides, because that is where the light is best.
It is a small hotel, run by a small team who live here. There is no marble lobby and no piped music. What there is instead: rooms that are properly warm, hot water whenever you want it, food cooked when you order it, and someone at the front office who actually knows which road to Berijam is open this week.

The hillside
Three blocks stepped down the slope, so almost every room keeps its own line of sight to the valley and its own balcony to sit on.

The gardens
Terraced beds along the walk down, a bougainvillea that flowers most of the year, and quiet sit-outs the gardeners keep in colour.

The evenings
Around six the light turns and the whole valley goes gold, then pink. Guests stop what they are doing and come out. Every single evening.
